2008 Presentation

Marc Muench Career Profile

Marc Muench has been a professional landscape and sports photographer since he finished his studies at Pasadena Art Center College of Design in the spring of 1989. He now serves as President of Muench Photography, Inc. Marc pioneered the agency’s digital lab in order to archive the extensive film library and control the artistic process of fine art printing.  Marc was born on October 14, 1966 in Santa Barbara, California, where he now resides with his wife, Stefanie and their three children.

Marc's sports photography includes skiing, climbing, biking, hiking, camping and scuba diving. "Photographing these sports is the best way for me to express myself through photography. I enjoy developing a relationship between people and the landscape -- tying together the personal connection each individual has with the landscape in its various forms of mountains, oceans, valleys and deserts."

"Geography lends itself to photography. Being able to combine various elements such as exciting outdoor sports, dramatic terrain and how people react within their environment, drives me to continue searching for that special place where these combinations are magical."

Marc was designated by Kodak in 2003 as a Kodak Photo Icon. Marc's photography has appeared on covers or inside Time, National Geographic, Traveler, Arizona Highways, Ski, Skiing, Outside, Sierra Magazine, etc. His work also appears in books, calendars, note cards, postcards, posters and annual reports.

Marc has represented Canon Camera in several ad campaigns, as well as appearing on “Canon Photo Safari” for eight seasons. Marc has worked with such companies as The North Face, Leo Burnett, IMI, Kodak, Grey Advertising, Ogilvy and Mather, McCann Erickson, Karsh and Hagan, Hakuhodo Inc., Hallmark, Time-Life, and Reader's Digest on various projects.

Marc’s most recent book project, “SANTA BARBARA” with Graphic Arts Center Publishing, OR is available.
