Back to Members Page Guidelines for Competition Entries Each member may enter two (2) photographs in each Division (Monochrome, Color Print or Slide) each month, September through April. Entries may be in either the subject or general categories. If one or both entries are in the subject category, five points will be added to the score for the month. If two of the judges do not feel that a picture fits in the subject category and disqualify it, it will be scored as a general entry. Print Divisions Entries in the Monochrome and Color Print Divisions are to be mounted at least 8x10 inches and not more than 16x20 inches. The mounts may be any format that fits within these sizes, e.g. 8x20, 9x16, 10x12, etc. The prints may also be matted, but it is not required. Multiple matts and extra heavy mounts should not be used to avoid an unnecessary burden on the committee members who must take care of them between meetings.
The back of each print mount is to have the maker's name, the title of the print and the category (subject or general). There should also be an arrow pointing to the top of the print. This is important during judging to help the committee members present the prints to the judges in the correct orientation. Slide Division -- merging with Digital Division Starting with the 2008-2009 season, all slides will be scanned and submitted as a digital entry; i.e., slides will be combined with the digital division. The digital division will be separated into color digital and monochrome digital. Members can scan their own slides for submission, or submit them to a (yet to be determined) person for scanning. When submitting slides to be scanned, the following criteria should be met. Slide entries must be in 2x2 inch mounts with the image masked to any desired size or shape. The mounts may be cardboard, plastic or glass. Please avoid extra thick mounts and be very careful of stickers used for labeling which may come loose. When using cardboard mounts, check that they are not kinked, torn or warped. Any of these conditions can lead to jams in the projector which cause delays and frustrations during the judging and commentary.
Slides should marked with the maker's name, the title of the photograph and the category (subject or general). There should be a dot placed in the lower left corner when it is held for direct viewing. The purpose of the dot is to make it easy for the committee members loading the projector trays to be certain that the picture is oriented correctly. |
